Let me be clear, I never intended to raise my brother from his grave... Chupeco beautifully crafts a fantasy world as she stylistically incorporates past and present time jumps between chapters. Don’t worry, these time jumps are clear and captivating because key elements are revealed in amazing twists that string you along until the last page. You’ll be jumping into your car and driving to the nearest book store to get book two and three. ~ Mady

Hello Reader's and Writer's! I want to honour and recognize famous horror author, Anne Rice, who passed December 11, 2021 in today’s Book Recommendation. I was sitting at my dining room table when my mom gasped and said, “Anne Rice died!” My mom introduced me to Anne Rice in my early or late teens. I might have been in high school, but I can’t quite remember. Nevertheless, Rice’s novel Interview with the Vampire hooked me—a story told by a vampire. How new, how fresh, how interesting! Throughout the novel, a nameless boy records the life and death of Louis de Pointe du Lac. The reader falls into a trance as they follow along. It’s almost as if you’re in the room with the two characters. Then Lestat de Lioncourt, a charming (and spoiled) vampire, makes readers hate yet love him as the story progresses. And, without spoiling anything, Rice’s novel ends as it begins—with the desire to read more! The book I have (see below) contains three novels in one: Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, and Queen of the Damned. There are many books included within The Vampire Chronicles, but these three introduce readers to the world and important characters. As you can see, Readers and Writers, my copy is well loved and read! This next picture shows all of Anne Rice’s books (that I have) on my bookshelf. These books are my mom’s, and now they’re mine! …Except for one copy. My mom was lucky to get one of her books signed by Anne Rice! I’ve always wanted one of my books signed by my favourite authors, and I hope to do it someday soon. Anne Rice: She was a prolific author who changed the course of vampire literature, and brought the well-known monster to new heights. In my opinion, she is the best vampire author to follow Bram Stoker’s Dracula. I highly recommend reading Anne Rice’s novels, especially The Vampire Chronicles. ~ Mady
Do you know what the first Thursday of the month means, Readers and Writers? That’s right: Book Recommendation Thursday! I hope you’re ready, because today I’m recommending Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco. Inspired by Jack the Ripper, Maniscalco infuses reality, fiction, and horror throughout a captivating storyline. Throughout the novel, the reader follows Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell as they work together to figure out the Ripper's identity. The mix of historical fiction and mystery work in tandem to build suspense and a binge-able pace. Originally published in 2016, Stalking Jack the Ripper evaded my field of awareness until February 2020. If you’re wondering how my memory is that good…it’s not: I have a Goodreads account! I do my best to be diligent in logging my want to read, currently reading, and read lists for the yearly number of books read challenge. Normally, I take a “fun” book with me on transit to take a break from course textbooks; however, I forgot a book on February 5th, 2020. It just so happened I received a notification that I had a book available on my library app: Stalking Jack the Ripper. It’s important to note at this point I was in the middle of my term, which means I had a lot of textbooks to read for classes. It’s also important to note I craved reading a “fun” book even though I caught up on some personal reading over Christmas. Yet I needed a break from the (horribly dry) material. I started reading Stalking Jack the Ripper on February 5th, 2020 and finished it February 7th, 2020. I probably shouldn’t admit I slacked on my reading list for classes…but Kerri Maniscalco introduced me to powerful characters, plot, and mystery. She hooked me completely, and I almost missed my stop. There are four books within the series, and each are inspired by serial killers throughout history. I could have gone to my local bookstore to purchase the series, but I waited a painstakingly long time for each novel on the library app. At least it gave me some time to actually focus on school work! So, if you like novels blended with different genres and storylines, then this is a series for you! ~ Mady
Hello my fellow readers and writers! You would think after one year, I would remember how stressful midterm season is, but apparently I needed a reminder. This week has been crazy with midterms and essays! Who knew Majoring in English and Minoring in Creative Writing was going to be so time consuming? At least I'm doing what I love! Anyways, I’m moving Book Recommendation Thursday to today. As you might have guessed by now, I’m recommending books by Dan Brown. I’m currently reading The Lost Symbol at the moment, and I can’t even begin to describe how fun of a read it is. Before I get into the book recommendation, here’s a little info on Dan Brown: he writes mystery novels that centre on real life conspiracy theories. Throughout his novels, Brown weaves a compelling, and page turning read. I get utterly lost in the world he creates, and for the life of me, I cannot figure out who the ‘bad guy’ is until he’s revealed. Every time I think I have the culprit, I quickly find out that I was completely wrong. From my perspective, Brown is a master of red herrings. Now to the book: The Da Vinci Code. In this enthralling tale, you follow Professor Robert Langdon, who gets mixed up in a murder mystery. The story is filled with adventure, and unbelievable twists and turns! If you love mystery and conspiracy novels, and haven't read the adventures of Robert Langdon, then I highly suggest you read Dan Brown's books! You won't be disappointed. ~ Mady
Last week for book recommendation Thursday, I recommended The Purpose of Your Life by Carol Adrienne. Today, I am going to recommend a book that follows some of the themes present in last weeks recommendation. Which means we're still in spiritual mode! The book I have chosen for today is called You Are a Bada**: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness And Start Living an Awesome Life. What a title, am I right? But don't get discouraged yet! Written by Jen Sincero, the book focuses on how to become the bada** that you really are, deep down. One of the key themes present within her book (without giving away too much) is to love yourself as you are. Everything that makes you who you are—flaws, quirks, etc.—you should love, because that's what makes you, you. And if you struggle with self-love, as a lot of people do, then this book is a definite purchase. I know, because it has helped me in ways that I never even imagined. Having read The Purpose of Your Life and You Are a Bada**, I have come so far in my journey at discovering my life's purpose, and in learning how to be the true me—learning how to fully accept and love the true me. Everything that has happened since reading these books, has brought forth amazing opportunities for me as an author, as a dreamer, and as a reader—which is why I have recommended them both to you, my readers. Maybe, just maybe, there is a chance these books can help someone in the phenomenal way like they have helped me. ~ Mady
Have you ever felt as though you have a higher purpose in life, but you're not living up to it? Have you ever felt stuck in a rut, unable to find a way out? Do you find yourself lost in the life you are living? If you've answered yes to the above questions, or feel unsure of your answer, then I have the book for you! Get ready for some spirituality today, as the book I have chosen to recommend is by Carol Adrienne, and is called The Purpose of Your Life. Carol Adrienne published The Purpose of Your Life in 1998, and has created a major following since then. Her book focuses on themes present in James Redfield's The Celestine Prophecy (1993), although one does not need to read one before the other; however, I would recommend both, as they each provide help discovering what your life's purpose is. For example: my life's purpose is to be an author. I sort of knew this at a young age, as I have been writing since I was eight years old. But, when I finally read Adrienne's book, it further reinforced what my life's purpose is—writing. Whether it be poems, short stories, or novels, I am a writer at heart. To help you figure out what your life purpose is, Adrienne has simple in-book-reflections to aid you in finding your life's purpose. By answering each question, you will begin to understand what you are meant to do in this life. As heavy as the material can be, it is life changing. All in all, I hope you give the book a try because it has played a fundamental part in my life, and in living the life I want to live. ~ Mady
Hello my peeps! I've decided to start doing a book recommendation every Thursday (which I hope I can keep up). I also want to do something like Short Story Tuesday, and possibly something on Saturday's. Still figuring things out, so bear with me! Anyways, let's get down to books! The one I'm recommending today, is one that has really helped me as a writer. It's called Writing Down the Bones Freeing the Writer Within By Natalie Goldberg. Personally, I think anyone and everyone should read this book—you don't even need to be a writer. It's one of the things Natalie mentions right off the bat. She also says that the practice she describes throughout the book—and stresses—should be the bane of everyones' existence (hers included). It has really helped me as a writer, doing a daily writing practice (this is what Natalie discusses). It challenges my abilities, and makes me a better writer. I've noticed the difference. Once again, highly recommend for anything you want to do! I've read it 4 times now, and this book is highlighted, and scribbled with notes! ~ Mady
I'm going to recommend four different series because they are the ones that inspired me to write my own book (which is in the works). I knew from a young age that I was going to be an author, I just had to read the right books to send me on my way. Please enjoy, and really, check them out! Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy
The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare
Throne of Glass by Sara J. Maas
Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
